Describe your business

I run an interior design studio, Muzo, based in Walthamstow. The studio specialises in F&B and hospitality, designing for restaurants, bars, cinemas and hotels in the UK and internationally. We are also specialist for Japanese restaurant design concept. Projects include Kibako (former Hot Stone) in Fitzrovia, The Garden Cinema in Covent Garden and Armstrong Audio Coffee Shop which is a minute walk away from Blackhorse Road tube station.

What issues was your business facing before you joined the E-business Programme?

I needed to improve my web and social media presence in order to generate leads for new projects. I also did not have a clearly defined vision for the direction and focus of the business – in terms of my market niche and what makes Muzo’s offer unique – or how to articulate that to potential customers.

What advice and support have you received through the programme?

My allocated Digital Adviser, Toyin Laketu, gave me a lot of useful information and advice.  She went through the website layout in great detail, discussing the architecture of the site and many necessary updates & improvements page by page.

We discussed Muzo’s online brand profile and ways in which I could build a consistent online presence across multiple platforms - including graphics, messaging and business information.  We worked through the technical side of SEO, how to use Google Search Console, Google Analytics and Moz platform to understand the website performance, identify keywords and build a wider range of backlink to improve page performance and search rankings.

She also gave me a lot of guidance on building relationships with relevant industry people and organisations - to build networks and secure new clients, particularly in my niche area – which became more and more crystallized as I worked through this process.

My Business Adviser also gave me advice and guidance on marketing and sales activities, client acquisition, pricing and business positioning. Our conversations helped me to develop a more positive and confident mindset about my business. His guidance also helped me to grasp the concept of buyer personas – to appropriately target clients in specific sectors.

How have the webinars helped?

I attended the programme’s ‘Creating Social Media Graphics’ webinar – which gave me really useful tips about creating eye-catching graphics for social media.

What impact has the support had on your business?

Improving my digital content has definitely helped increase business leads, it has also been an extremely helpful tool to showcase work to potential clients who have come in through existing work leads. Clarifying my niche in the industry has had a marked effect on my focus in choosing projects and has helped to raise my confidence around Muzo’s specialisation.

What are your business plans for the future?

The studio is still small, so immediate plans are to keep strengthening Muzo’s brand, increasing the visibility of projects that I am working on and to collaborate with and contribute to local businesses and local projects.
