LONDON E-Business Support Programme Success Story:

Recycleworks, Richard Gamble

Business overview

Following a life-long passion for cycling, industrial designer, Richard Gamble, launched his bespoke bicycle service centre, RGcycleworks in 2020 in North-West London. The business offers: repairs, bike builds and customisation along with recently added services including: mobile repairs, training, crash damage assessment, sponsorship and bike box rentals.

With a commitment to reducing the business’s carbon footprint and minimalising waste, Richard makes it his core principle to try and repair a component first, rather than replace it, and when a bike is no longer viable to repair, he recovers all the functional components and either gives them a second life on another bike – or turns them into a piece of cycle art!

RGcycleworks is highly recommended on Google with clients rating Richard’s knowledge, willingness to share advice and cost effectiveness.

Digital Support

Richard joined the LONDON E-Business Support Programme with Enfield in May 2024 with the aim of enhancing his digital skills to improve his business’s online reach and customer acquisition.

During regular meetings with E-Business Adviser, Boomy Tokan, Richard was advised on how to make improvements on his website including basic SEO strategy and keyword targeting, as well as how to make better use of email marketing and to start building a customer mailing list.

In addition, Richard was helped to clarify his business proposition and core services which include a mobile repair service and offering new bike maintenance workshops.   Partnerships with local cycling clubs and event-based promotions were also recommended to drive word-of-mouth referrals.

Business Growth

The impact of the support provided has been transformative for RGcycleworks.  With increased online visibility achieved through Google and local SEO and a stronger focus on retaining clients and building repeat business, RGcycleworks has increased its sales by over 33%.  Richard’s confidence in exploring higher-margin services has also been boosted and he is clearer about the next steps needed for future business development and marketing.

Richard says, “Having launched RGcycleworks in 2020 with a basic website, it was timely to receive the support from the LONDON E-Business Support Programme to guide me in taking the business to the next level. Regular meetings with Boomy helped to refine my business plan, relaunch my website to reflect new services and tune my SEO with an instant increased customer engagement.  As a ‘one-man band’ it was invaluable to have the opportunity to work with an experienced business professional like Boomy, to bring a fresh view on my business and work through strategies and new ideas.”
