LONDON E-Business Support Programme Success Story:
The Karma Mama, Lisa Ellis

The Karma Mama is a mobile wellness solution offering yoga, meditation, reiki healing, intuitive massage, treatments for mums, as well as home-stay retreats and art therapy. Founder, Lisa Ellis established the business in 1999 offering the home-visit service to families in North and West London – which she delivers herself and sometimes with the support of other freelance therapists. She has a wealth of experience in the wellness industry including managing three wellness therapy rooms at the BBC and being awarded Small Business of the Year within the corporation for two consecutive years.
Lisa has become well-known in the community for hosting successful events. She is a voluntary director of West Hendon Arts and Wellness CIC, which organises funded wellness and art events – bringing people together to improve health, social skills, creativity, cultural knowledge and community spirit.
With a desire to enhance her digital skills and boost The Karma Mama’s online presence to attract more clients, Lisa joined the LONDON E-Business Support Programme with Enterprise Enfield. She explains, “Before joining the programme, I struggled with digital knowledge and SEO. My website needed significant adjustments, particularly with SEO, to become visible on Google. I realised I wasn’t attracting organic clients and felt overwhelmed by how much work was needed to look professional and be seen online.”
Digital Boost
Once enrolled on the programme, Lisa was introduced Digital Expert, Nadya Quintanilla, and attended regular online digital advice and guidance sessions. One of Lisa’s aims was to learn how to make her website look more professional and increase her digital marketing activity. She says, “Nadya was a blessing, helping me to break everything down into easy, step-by-step instructions to improve my website, boost my marketing and more. I have slowly but surely taken on a few more customers each month from the work that has been completed following each one-to-one meeting.”
Since starting the programme, Lisa has refined her business into a full wellness solution and developed a new concept whereby families can enjoy wellness activities in their own homes, creating a spa-like retreat experience without leaving their house. Lisa’s unique “retreats at home” service means that, so far, she is the only one in her industry offering this concept, which has made her even more passionate about its potential.
“I am a lot more confident with digital skills and appreciate the valuable advice I have received from Enterprise Enfield. Now I am seeing the impact of their support and feel my business will go from strength to strength.”
Future Plans
Lisa is steadily growing her subscriber list and is planning a range of events for 2025, including a wellness retreat in the autumn. She is also focused on promoting her new ‘home-stay mobile retreats’ and plans to launch a webinar to promote and explain the benefits of her retreat idea. This will give people a clear understanding of the service, as well as allow them the opportunity to meet her personally and find out how she can help improve their well-being.
Additionally, Lisa is developing paid-for online recorded classes so clients can engage with her services in a flexible and convenient way - these will also help maintain a steady revenue stream for the business.
“The CIC I co-direct will also benefit from a professionally designed website, because of the advice I have been given by Enterprise Enfield. This will help us promote our wellness and art initiatives and reach more people in the community.”
